Há pessoas que parecem ter um lado mais bem disposto. Não conhecemos Bruno Monteiro, mas talvez seja um desses casos. Serve-se do seu pseudónimo Mr. Gallini, nome que atribuíram ao irmão (aquando do seu tempo de escola e que, por consequência, foi-lhe também imputado, não fizessem essas coisas parte das peraltices da adolescência), para mandar para o ar letras descomprometidas, cheias de humor. Não é tarefa fácil ser one man band. Enfrentar o público de uma certa forma assemelha-se ao momento em que David fez frente a Golias. O lançar da pedra serve de metáfora para a prova dos nove que é lançar o primeiro acorde em cima de um palco.
É baterista dos Stone Dead, mas não deixa de abraçar as ideias que o invadem para as registar em paralelo. Foi isso que o fez pegar nas canções soltas que foi compondo para lançar Lovely Demos a solo, álbum que arranca com Bad Mood. Quem diria que Mr. Gallini está de mau humor quando parece estar numa sala colorida enquanto destaca as últimas vogais de cada frase que canta: "I don't wanna to be rude I just want to be cooolll(eeee)". Como o compreendemos... às vezes fica difícil ser cool(eeeee)...
Ouvir Mr. Gallini é como cair no caldeirão dos Beatles, dos Blind Melon e de tantas outras bandas por eles influenciadas. Há pessoas assim, capazes de pensar como se tivessem mais do que um cérebro. Magicam as canções como se fossem autênticas óperas. É claro, os arranjos são tão importantes quanto a base da composição e as vocalizações resumem um pouco como a mente de Bruno Monteiro trabalha. Há histórias a serem contadas e cenários a inventar.
Lovely Demos tem uma produção vintage, rotação que nos leva ao passado, à década de sessenta e à ilha da Rainha Isabel II. Os acordes tristonhos de Rainbow Cow soam a canção de despedida que se quebra em refrão potente. Fink the Alien, cujo teledisco parece ter sido tirado de algum cenário de The Mighty Boost, teletransporta-nos para uma dimensão surreal onde moram seres imaginários. Apesar das muitas referências que Mr. Gallini traz consigo, desde musicais a cartoonescas, existe também uma vontade genuína de mandar cá para fora o que o incomoda, são as letras, as harmonias e a sua atitude confiante. Para romper um pouco a extroversão contida em Lovely Demos, The Show subverte o que ficou para trás prendendo-nos à cama até adormecermos.
Lovely Demos deambula entre momentos de extroversão e introversão, entre ideias de um rapaz que apenas procura o seu lugar neste mundo tão complexo. No fundo e, por mais surreal que soe, o motivo pelo qual as galinhas não têm dentes é porque têm um bico, mas não significa que num outro planeta, aquele em que todas as possibilidades existem, não os tenham.
He is Stone Dead's drummer but that doesn't stop him from embracing the ideas that invade him and to record them. That's what made him assemble the songs he composed to release Lovely Demos as a solo artist. A record that begins with Bad Mood: who could say that Mr. Gallini is in a bad mood when he looks like he is in a living room filled with colours while he sings and emphasizes the last vowels of every phrase: "I don't wanna be rude. I just want to be cooolll(eeee)". How we understand him...sometimes it's hard to be cool...
Listening to Mr. Gallini is like falling in Beatles and Blind Melon's cauldron, as well as many other bands that were influenced by them. There are people like this, capable of thinking as if they had more than one brain: they create songs like they are operas. And of course: the musical arrengements are as important as the root of the composition and the vocals that show us a little bit of how Bruno Monteiro's mind works. There are stories to be told and scenarios to be invented.
Lovely Demos has a vintage kind of production that takes us to the past, to the sixties and to Queen Elizabeth II's island. The sad chords in Rainbow Cow sound like a farewell song that breaks in a very strong chorus. Fink the Alien, has a videoclip that seems to be have taken from any scenery of The Mighty Boost, and teleport us to a surreal dimension where imaginary creatures live.
Even though there are a lot of musical and even cartoonish references, Mr. Gallini has a genuine will to sing about what bothers him, the lyrics, the harmonies and his attitude are filled with confidence. To break away all the extroversion in Lovely Demos, The Show subverts what was behind and chains us to her bed untill we fall asleep.
Lovely Demos goes between moments of extroversion and introversion, between ideas of a boy that is looking for his place in this complex world. At the bottom of it all and as surreal as it sounds, the reason why chickens don't have teeth is because they have a beak but that does not mean that in another planet, one where all possibilities can come true, they don't have teeth.
