Há noites assim, surpreendentes, enérgicas e cativantes. O “power trio” (guitarra elétrica, bateria e baixo) é, talvez, a formação mais característica e a que melhor capta a essência do rock and roll. Foi isso que tivemos a oportunidade e o prazer de assistir neste concerto na ZDB. Duas bandas, dois trios sempre a acelerar e o mosh no “Aquário” como há muito não se via. A primeira parte do concerto esteve reservada ao duo portuense Sunflowers (Carolina Brandão, bateria e voz e Carlos de Jesus, guitarra e voz) reforçado com um baixista. Durante uma hora brindaram-nos com um garage rock cru, aqui e ali com reminiscências punk, mas sempre muito bem executado. Que bom foi saltar e abanar ao som desta banda. Nunca os tinha visto ao vivo e foi uma ótima surpresa. Em palco mostraram sempre um à vontade fantástico, com rebeldia e pose selvagem quanto baste. Uns minutos de arrefecimento e seguiu-se mais uma hora sempre a abrir com os Jacuzzi Boys. O trio de Miami, formado por Gabriel Alcala (guitarra e voz), Diego Monasteri (bateria) e Danny Gonzales (baixo) apresentaram, ao vivo, um som mais potente do que aquele que transparece nos seus registos discográficos. Um garage rock moderno que incendiou os corpos no “Aquário”. Alta voltagem emanada do palco para a assistência que respondeu em conformidade. Na sequência dos Sunflowers, este foi mais um concerto intenso e de qualidade. Rock and roll na sua forma mais genuína e despida. Que bem que soa, pena ter sido tão curto.
Resumindo, dois grandes e excitantes concertos num só, que me deixaram a vontade de rever ambas as bandas. Para quem nunca assistiu aos seus concertos, recomendo a experiência.

Sunflowers + Jacuzzi Boys: The Night of the “Power Trio”
There are nights like these, surprising, energetic and captivating. The “power trio” (electric guitar, drums and bass) is, perhaps the typical formation and the one that captures the essence of rock and roll. That was exactly what we had the opportunity and pleasure to experience in the ZDB gig. Two bands, two trios speeding up and leading to a mosh in the “Aquarium”, something that didn’t happen for quite some time. The first part of the event was reserved to the duo from Porto, Sunflowers (Carolina Brandão, drums and vocals and Carlos de Jesus, guitar and vocals) and to complete the line-up, a bass player. For an hour, they played a raw garage rock, with some punk influences, but always well executed. How nice it was to jump and shake at the sound of this band. I had never seen them live and it was a great surprise. They showed themselves at ease, with a certain rebellion and a savage posture. A few minutes to warm up and then on to another hour with the Jacuzzi Boys. The Miami trio formed by Gabriel Alcala (guitar and voice), Diego Monasteri (drums) and Danny Gonzales (bass) presented, live, a sound that is way more powerful than the one present on their records. A modern garage rock that set the bodies aflame at the “Aquarium”. High voltage that came from the stage to which the audience reacted accordingly. After Sunflowers, it was an intense and high-quality performance by the Jacuzzi Boys. Rock and Roll in the true sense of the word. How sweet it sounds, the only downside was that it was too short.
Summing up, two great and exciting concerts rolled into one, that left me wishing to see both bands again. For those who have never been to their concerts, I recommend the experience.
