Blue Youth é um trio de Saskatchewan no centro-oeste do Canadá que toca uma mistura enérgica de noise rock, punk, post-metal e indie rock. O disco mais recente agarra pelo colarinho com o tema de entrada, Black Lung para nunca mais largar ao longo dos oito temas do disco. Este trio consegue misturar a ferocidade do punk com o lado mais melódico do indie rock, a criatividade dissonante do noise rock e o brilhantismo melódico e composicional do post-metal. Falamos de oito temas cada qual com a sua identidade própria e que cunham a banda como uma das propostas mais interessantes do espectro da música alternativa extrema, melódica e apaixonada.
Black Lung apresenta uma malha de guitarras criativa e dinâmica com a voz intensa e melódica de Gage McGuire que também se ocupa das guitarras. O tema que se segue, Delusional/Unapologetic conta com um refrão viciante, uma excelente linha de baixo tocada por Jon Wolfond e a bateria furiosa proveniente das baquetas de Garret Matheis. Water Well é o tema mais curto do disco, ficando abaixo dos dois minutos e serve como um pequeno interlúdio, passagens ambientais acompanhadas por spoken word distante, efeitos sonoros e guitarras dispersas que evocam um ambiente melancólico. Um pequeno espaço para respirar e abraçar com firmeza o tema seguinte, So Seizure, um dos temas mais catchy do disco com algumas reminiscências de grunge dos anos 90. (The Worst of it) you surpreende-nos pela presença do piano tocado por Madison Nicol que abre o tema de forma delicada para depois sermos assaltados (no bom sentido) pelas guitarradas harmoniosas e vocalizações cativantes. Pause for Death é no mesmo estilo de Water Well, um pequeno interlúdio com vocalizações quase faladas em jeito de spoken word. Voltamos ao ataque com Succubus com uma das linhas de guitarra mais interessantes e viciantes do disco. É um tema com grandes influências de punk hardcore e com passagens instrumentais extremamente bem conseguidas. O tema que encerra o disco, e que também lhe dá o nome, Dead Forever, tem um conjunto de riffs de abertura que soam bastante acessíveis ao jeito de um indie rock ou emo dos anos 90, mas o tema exala luz e sombras.
É um disco que se destaca pela sua habilidade honesta de misturar melodia com ferocidade, tornando-o uma das propostas mais interessantes dentro do espectro da música alternativa mais aventureira e extrema.

Blue Youth is a three-piece from Saskatchewan in Western Canada. They play an energetic mixture of noise rock, punk, post-metal and indie rock. The record grabs us by the collar with its first song, Black Lung, and it never lets go all along the record’s eight songs. This three-piece manages to mix the ferocity of punk, with the melodic flair from indie rock, noise rock’s dissonant and the compositional and melodic brilliance of post-metal.
We are talking about eight songs with an identity of its own and that coin the band as one of the most interesting in the spectrum of bands that play extreme, melodic and passionante music.
Black Lung has very creative and dynamic guitars and the intense and melodic vocals by Gage McGuire who also plays the guitars. The next song, Delusional/Unapologetic has a very catchy chorus, an excellent bass line played by Jon Wolfond and the fierce drums whose drumsticks belong to Garret Matheis. Water Well is the shortest song of the record clocking below two minutes and it’s like an interlude, instrumental ambiances accompanied by some distant spoken word, sound effects and sparse guitars that evoke some melancholy. A little space to breathe and take in its next song, So Seizure, one of the catchiest songs of the records with some reminiscenses from 90’s grunge. (The worst of it) You surprises us by the presence of the piano played by Madison Nicol and that opens the song in a delicate way, we are then assaulted (in a good way) by the harmonious guitars and captivating vocals. Pause for Death has the same kind of style as Water Well, a short interlude with vocals that are more spoken than sung in a spoken word kind of way. We attack again with Succubus that has one of the most interesting and addictive guitar lines of the record. Its a song with huge hardcore punk influences and with competent instrumental passages. The last song and that also gives its name to the record, Dead Forever, has a couple of riffs that are very accessible with an indie rock kind of feeling or 90’s emo but the song manages to exhale both light and shadows.
It’s a record that sets itself apart by its honesty in mixing melody with ferocity, making it one of the most interesting records in the spectrum of alternative music that is both extreme and adventurous.
