Merry Xmas from Zegema Beach records

Our friends at Zegema Beach Records sent Santa Claus with his reindeers all the way from Canada to Portugal with a set of incredible records. Santa Claus was tired of all the jingle bells and all the silent night song covers, so he traded his Santa Claus beret with a cap, pierced his nose, eyebrows and bridge and became a different Santa Claus. We present some short and sweet reviews about the gifts from Zegema Beach.

BLIND GIRLS – RESIDUE (NOVEMBER, 2018)

Passionate, fierce and melodic band from Gold Coast in Australia. The lyrics are poetic and intertwine with the melodies. In our interview with the band some writer’s name were mentioned, however, my personal image when listening to this astonishing LP were the passages in UNDER THE VOLCANO by MALCOLM LOWRY when he succumbs to the beauty of a bee in the garden. Emotional screamo from the depths of the heart, flirting with the shadow self in all of us and after all of that, remaining human.

EUCLID C FINDER - + A STANDARD BASIS FOR THE SET OF ALL DISCONTENT (NOVEMBER 2018)

Chaotic and unpredictable melodic passages make this record heavier than your teenage insecurities. This is the solo work of Mike Mehl and he really knows to work on your psyche. I wouldn’t say that is that violent but it does take you away from your boring comfort space. It also has a really great message in it that you can also be a toxic avenger. Everybody hold hands with some eggnog or not and celebrate destruction in a beautiful and melodic…kind of way.

YOUNG MOUNTAIN – LOST TREE (NOVEMBER 2018)

Romantic interludes combined with aggressive passages. Clean vocals that become passionate and scream. Extraordinary melodic guitar interludes that make this Swede post-harcore band way ahead of its peers. Try to listen to VACANT EYES without feeling a thing, impossible. It’s like a portal that has been opened on earth: the one where all of the unrequited loves come to bite you at the heart. I FLEW ABOVE YOUR HOUSE LAST NIGHT is a sonic odyssey into another’s heart. Probably our loved one.

IN WOLVES CLOTHING LP (DECEMBER 2018)

Emotional and reckless like you are on your bicycle to meet that affectionate character of your dreams. In wolves clothing are a screamo band from Virginia, USA that pack such heat that would Mr. Freeze to life. Just listen to THE TERRIFYING AFTERMATH OF DISBELIEF, those riffs alone would bring a zombie back to life. Passionate screamo for all ages, genders and religious beliefs.

GIRL ARM – OUTSIDE LANGUAGE CASSETTE EP (DECEMBER 2018)

This Canadian band kicks off with the theme JETSONS and we understand that are into serious biz. Mathematical melodies with melodic vocals. It reminds us a type of Husker Dü if they were into math-rock. Crimean crimes is one of the highlights of the EP, an intense instrumental with frenzied vocals. Math-rock with that emotional melodies that reminds us of our teenage years, first loves, rides on the swing and the first taste of a beer.
