A inovação e criação de uma
sonoridade própria é a meta de algumas bandas e músicos. Fazem-no com tanta
mestria que faz com que pareça fácil. São bandas extremamente criativas que não
se cingem somente às influências, mas criam o seu próprio imaginário e
sonoridade.
Desafiam as barreiras e os
limites dos géneros musicais, e com uma extravagância musical inata, criam as
melodias perfeitas para os melómanos que há muito já saíram da caixa.
A extravagância normalmente
circula entre dois pólos, o do extremo mau gosto ou do bom gosto. Apresenta-se o exemplo de quando o poeta romântico Gerard de Nérval decidiu adoptar uma lagosta como animal de estimação — na altura, era muitas vezes visto a passear a
lagosta com uma fitinha azul —, assim que foi inquirido sobre a escolha do seu animal de
estimação, respondeu que eram criaturas serenas e sérias que conheciam os segredos
do oceano e que não ladravam.
Na música, a extravagância assume-se
na fusão de géneros musicais díspares, o uso de máscaras e outros apetrechos
visuais, a criação de alter-egos assustadores ou tácticas chocantes em palco.
No entanto, a mais simples e fluída das formas de extravagância de bom gosto é
a fusão e a reinvenção ou criação de uma sonoridade bastante particular. Uma qualidade
que encontramos em algumas bandas emergentes.
É esse o caso com Actionesse,
uma jovem banda de Seattle que editou este ano o seu LP de estreia, The Deep
Bright Bellow. Antes do LP editaram 2 EP’S, Mignon (2016) e Fortune (2017).
Mignon inicia a aventura
sónica dos Actionesse. Secções de sopro com saxofone e trombone harmonizam-se
com as cordas das guitarras e baixo para dar o suporte necessário às vocalizações
que flirtam com o post-hardcore e o punk. Esta combinação viciante de instrumentos
de sopro com composições enérgicas e complexas fez com que a banda cunhasse o
termo post-horncore para melhor descrever a sua sonoridade.
O LP The Deep Bright Bellow solidifica as sonoridades dos EP'S
anteriores e intensifica a experiência de um post-hardcore ou post-horncore, que
desliza freneticamente entre as luzes e as sombras. Melodias
enérgicas que revisitam imagens de carnivals fascinantes de existência nómada. É desta fusão de instrumentos
de cordas e sopro que surge o post-horncore da banda e que revitaliza as
paisagens da música alternativa.

Innovating and creating a distinct
sound is the goal of many bands and musicians. They do it so masterfully that
it appears easy. Those are bands that do not stick only to their influences but create
their own imaginary and sound.
They defy the barriers and
limitations of musical genres and with an inate musical extravagance create
perfect melodies for the music lovers that have been thinking outside the box for a long time.
An example of extravagance can be, for instance, the romantic poet Gerard de Nérval that adopted a lobster as a pet. He was seen walking his lobster with a
little blue ribbon. When they asked him about his chosen pet, he said that the
lobsters were peaceful and serious creatures who knew the secrets of the ocean
and didn’t bark.
In music, extravagance can be
the fusion of very different music genres, the use of masks and other visuals,
the creation of scary alter-egos or shock tactics while on stage. However, the
most simple and good taste kind of extravagance is the fusion and reinventating or creating a very particular kind of sound. A quality that we can find in
some emerging bands.
That is the case of
Actionesse, a young band from Seattle that released this year their debut LP,
The deep Bright Bellow. Before the LP they had released two EP’S, Mignon (2016)
and Fortune (2017).
Mignon begins Actionesse’s
sonic adventure. The wind sections of the saxofone and trombone are harmonious
with the strings of the guitars and bass. They both give the needed layers for
the vocals that flirt with post-hardcore and punk. This addictive mix of wind instruments
and energetic and complex compositions made the band label their sound as post-horncore.
The LP solidifies the sound of
the previous EP’S and intensifies the experience of a post-hardcore or post-horncore
that slides frantically between lights and shadows.
Dynamic melodies that revisit
images from carnivals that are fascinating in their nomadic
existence. It is from this fusion of string and wind instruments that post-horncore
appears and revitalizes the landscapes of alternative music.
