As influências musicais e a
admiração por um músico podem ser uma das razões que nos leva a pegar num
instrumento pela primeira vez ou então, já sendo músico a experimentar sem ter
noção dos limites ou barreiras.
Foi a banda Naked City de John
Zorn que levou um grupo de músicos de Ithaca (NYC) a juntarem-se para gravar
Gunpoint Poetry, o único LP da banda gravado em meados dos anos 90 e que foi
recentemente reeditado.
O resultado são composições
que poderiam roçar o improviso puro e simples mas que contam com uma estrutura
pré-definida que pode aguardar a fãs de free jazz, de progressivo como King Crimson
ou da liberdade musical de uns Primus. É um disco que infelizmente passou por
baixo de muitos radares mas que, felizmente, garantiu uma reedição.
A banda já não se encontra no
activo, mas intrigados pelo LP decidimos perguntar aos Jaws as suas

Musical influences and the admiration

barriers or limits.
It was John Zorn’s band Naked City
that influenced a group of musicians from Ithaca (NYC) to get together and
record Gunpoint Poetry, the only LP of the band that was record in the 90’s and
that was recently reissued.
The result are compositions
that could be pure and simple jams but that have a pre-definied structure that
may please fans of free jazz, progressive like King Crimson or the musical freedom
of Primus. It’s a record that unfortunately was below the radars but that fortunately
was granted a reissue.
The band is no long active but
