A melancolia e aqueles momentos de consciência em que nos apercebemos da nossa condição solitária de humano, as ditas tonturas metafísicas, como lhes chamava o meu professor de filosofia do secundário, fazem parte da existência humana desde que o homem tomou consciência do seu lugar no universo. É então natural que a música consiga transmitir alguma angústia existencial, ao mesmo tempo, que abrilhanta o que é humano, o que é nosso e indispensável – as nossas emoções.
Há muitas bandas que subvertem géneros e que os misturam com mestria, as barreiras servem para ser quebradas, e é o que esta banda vinda de Liège na Bélgica faz com bastante facilidade.
Helium Horse Fly voltam com o seu último registo de originais - Hollowed - depois de um hiato de cerca de 10 anos. É o seu segundo disco e continua o legado de criar um universo belo, mas algo desolado no nosso espectro auditivo.
Happiness é o tema que inicia o disco e que domina com o seu tom repetitivo e hipnótico, a voz magnetizante de Marie Billy alumia o caminho por entre as camadas densas das guitarras e do baixo. A cadência e a intensidade vão aumentando e há uma explosão quando surge o saxofone de Bertrand de Lamalle. É o portal de entrada perfeito para In a Deathless Spell, um tema que se inicia com um set de guitarras portentoso de Stéphane Dupont, que se espraiam em riffs progressivos e cativantes.
Algeny é um tema delicado e meditativo que nos deixa ser levados pela bateria controlada, mas que enche a música de Gil Chevigné e o baixo de Dimitri Lanello que se assume como maestro da melodia.
Progeny é uma peça instrumental que exala melancolia e alguma mágoa. Monochrome conta com um dueto a duas vozes de Marie Billy e Stéphane Dupont que se deixam levar, ligeiros mas intensos, ao longo das guitarras que vão abrindo caminho para uma explosão que julgamos estar próxima e quando acontece é um post-hardcore cerebral e intenso. É um tema titânico com passagens entre tempestade e calma.
Shelter é o tema que encerra o disco e o mais curto do disco. Conta com um belo entrançado de guitarras acústicas que revelam o cariz mais profundo e introspectivo da voz de Marie Billy.
Hollowed faz-nos viajar por entre telas de mágoa e melancolia, enquanto nos recorda o dom de sentir várias emoções e encarnar vários estados de espírito. Isso que nos torna humanos.

Melancholy and those moments of consciousness in which we realize our solitary condition as humans, the so-called metaphysical vertigo (as my philosophy teacher from high school would call them) are part of our human existence since Man gained conscious of his place in the universe. It is then natural that music can express some existential anguish and at the same time, brighten what is human, what is ours and indispensable- our emotions.
There are a lot of bands that subvert musical genres and mix them all together with mastery, barriers are there to be broken and that is what this band from Liège, Belgium does with ease.
Helium Horse Fly are back with their latest release – Hollowed – after a hiatus of about ten years. It is their second release and it continues the legacy of creating a beautiful universe, but somewhat desolate in our auditory spectrum.
Happiness is the song that starts off the record and that dominates with its repetitive and hypnotic pattern, the magnetizing voice of Marie Billy leads the way through dense layers of guitars and bass. The cadence and intensity rise and there is an explosion when Bertrand Lamalle’s saxophone appears. It’s the perfect entrance for In a Deathless Spell, a song that starts with a portentous set of guitars by Stéphane Dupont, that transform into progressive and captivating riffs.
Algeny is a delicate and meditative song that let us be carried away by the controlled but rich drumming by Gil Chevigné and the bass by Dimitri Lanello that becomes the maestro of the song.
Progeny is an instrumental piece that exhales melancholy and some sorrow. Monochrome has a vocal duet by Marie Billy and Stéphane Dupont that let themselves be carried away in light and intense way, while the guitars open their way to an explosion that we know is bound to happen and when it does it’s a cerebral yet intense kind of post-hardcore. It’s a colossal song with passages between tempest and calm.
Shelter is the last song of the record and the shortest in duration. It has a beautiful tapestry of acoustic guitars that helps reveal the more profound and introspective core of Marie Billy’s voice.
Hollowed makes us travel between canvas of sorrow and melancholy, while at the same time reminds us of our gift to feel several emotions and to be in different moods and that is what makes us humans.
