O jazz é, na maior parte dos casos, um processo colaborativo entre músicos experientes e versáteis. No entanto, há uma minoria de músicos que enveredam por aventuras musicais sozinhos. Handwrist é o projecto musical do multi-instrumentista, Rui Botelho Rodrigues que desde 2012 explora vários géneros fora do jazz, tais como post-rock, rock progressivo e rock psicadélico, entre outros.
Já editou perto de duas dezenas de discos e este ano editou três discos, Tribulation, Pilgrimage e o mais recente, Paranoia Hotel que se divide em quatro peças bastante eclécticas.
O primeiro tema, Reception, desenvolve-se desembaraçadamente pelo uso de sintetizadores, mantendo um cunho vanguardista sem descurar a veia tradicional do jazz de fusão. Depois de Reception, seguimos para Elevator Malaise, um tema bastante mais longo, chegando aos 14 minutos que começa com uma camada de pianos que mais tarde se junta aos sintetizadores, entrançando-se.
Panic Room, é um tema também ele bastante longo que se destaca pelos solos de guitarra eléctrica e pelos efeitos sonoros cósmicos. O tema final, Emergency Exit destaca-se por ser mais suave que os anteriores e contar com um solo de sintetizador.
É um disco que é eficaz na criação de atmosfera e que revela todo o potencial de um avant-prog feito por apenas um músico.

Handwrist is the project of multi-instrumentalist, Rui Botelho Rodrigues that since 2012 explores several musical genres outside of jazz, like post-rock, prog rock and psych rock among others.
He released nearly twenty records and this year he released three, Tribulation, Pilgrimage and the more recent one, Paranoia Hotel that divides itself into four eclectic pieces.
The first theme, Reception develops freely with the use of synths, keeping a avant-garde tone without neglecting its inspiration in jazz fusion. After Reception, we go straight to Elevator Malaise, a longer theme reaching 14 minutes that starts off with a layer of pianos that later is joined by synths and they intertwine.
Panic Room is also a long theme and the highlight are the guitar solos and the cosmical sound effects. The final theme, Emergency Exit stands out for being softer than the earlier themes and having a synth solo.
It’s a record that is quite effective in creating an atmosphere and reveals all the potential of an avant-prog made by one musician alone.
