A guitarra é um dos instrumentos que mais garante intensidade ou brutalidade ao som de uma banda, no entanto, há casos onde a guitarra está ausente e regista-se, ainda assim, uma elevada dose de intensidade e energia. PoiL é uma banda sem guitarras que consegue criar camadas em cima de camadas de energia fulgurante e cativante. Os PoiL surgiram em Lyon, França, e estrearam-se com L’ire Des Papes em 2008, um disco munido de uma grande diversidade, existindo espaço para momentos mais clássicos, o frenesim livre do jazz e o tecnicismo do progressivo com a energia rebelde do punk presente em todos os momentos.
A banda continuou o seu trilho frenético, lançando mais 3 álbuns, sendo que o mais recente foi editado este ano e intitula-se Sus. Assim como os seus álbuns predecessores, Sus é um cocktail explosivo de diversidade sonora e valeu para alguns o cunho de “brutal prog”, devido ao seu som demolidor e imprevisível.
Uma outra característica do álbum é o occitano que ainda é falado nas regiões sul de França e algumas regiões de Espanha, Mónaco e Itália. As melodias são surpreendentes, intensas e aliam-se à poesia da língua neolatina falada na Occitânia, também usada há séculos por Dante Alighieri num dos cantos do Purgatório, a segunda parte da sua obra intemporal, A Divina Comédia.
O lado delicado e romântico do lirismo enamora-se do lado mais selvático e rebelde da melodia e assim constroem-se camadas em cima de camadas sonoras complexas e melódicas que fazem de PoiL, uma banda que se mete por baixo da nossa pele, não significasse PoiL pele em francês.

The guitar is one of the musical instruments that can add even more intensity or brutality to a band’s sound, however there are cases when the guitar is absent and a band still manages to create a high dose of intensity and energy. PoiL is a band without guitars that generates layers upon layers of vibrant and addictive energy.
PoiL are from Lyon, France and their debut L’ire Des Papes was released in 2008. A record that holds great musical diversity. There is space for classical moments, the free frenzy of jazz, the rigour of prog and the rebellious energy of Punk that is present at all times.
The band continued its wild path releasing 3 more albums, being that the most recent one is called Sus. Just like the previous albums, Sus is an explosive cocktail of sonic diversity and made some coin the band as “brutal prog” due to their demolishing and unpredictable kind of sound.
Another characteristic of the album is the use of Occitanic language that is still spoken on the southern regions of France and some regions in Spain, Monaco and Italy. The melodies are surprising, intense and ally themselves to the poetry present in the Occitanic language that was also used several centuries ago in one of the cantos of Purgatorio, the second part of Dante Alighieri’s immortal book, The Divine Comedy.
The delicate and romantic side of the lyricism falls in love with the more wild and insurgent side of the melody, and create layers upon layers of complex and melodic sounds that make PoiL a band that can get "under your skin", which seems adequate since the band’s name means skin in French.
