Persiste uma ligação indelével entre músico e ouvinte quando se cria arte que é intimista e introspectiva. As reflexões, memórias e experiências passadas do músico criam um campo fértil de simbologia e significados onde o ouvinte pode também avivar as suas memórias. São experiências e emoções diferentes, mas que encontram vários traços em comum. A música encontra a sua significação no e através do ouvinte.
São várias as memórias, dolorosas ou felizes que nos incentivam a criar e a expressar as emoções que outrora poderiam estar recalcadas. A música como linguagem alternativa da alma apresenta-se na sua imaterialidade, numa estrutura mais coesa e maciça que qualquer objecto visível.
Buscamos arte que, apesar da sua genuinidade, consiga traduzir o que sentimos e/ou pensamos. E é assim que o músico, na sua sensibilidade e olhar diferente sobre o mundo, cria essa ligação inabalável que une continentes distantes.
Do Brasil para Portugal chega-nos Paes, um músico originário do Recife, no Brasil. Vive actualmente em São Paulo e lançou o seu mais recente EP – Wallace – através da editora Abismmo. O EP foi gravado durante uma residência artística que o músico realizou com Benke Ferraz (Boogarins) no Glândula Lab em Gravatá (Pernambuco). Paes colaborou também com outros músicos como Mombojó e José Duarte.
O EP é composto por 7 temas que gravitam tematicamente sobre a capacidade de reconstrução emocional e as metamorfoses pelas quais todos passamos durante a nossa existência. Essa capacidade que nos garante que nada é totalmente linear ou estacionário, que não vivemos na estagnação e que tudo sofre uma transformação, mesmo que essa não nos seja visível imediatamente.
Wallace, nome adoptado por ser o alter-ego do músico, é “uma viagem lisérgica e melancólica, mas rosa, azul, mergulhada em lembranças de infância, questionamentos sem fim, e um coração, por vezes, apaixonado.”, como resume o texto de apresentação do álbum.
O álbum é o seu sexto lançamento em doze anos de carreira e apresenta-se como um trabalho melódico, experimental e exploratório. É também delicado porque aborda temas como as ansiedades do mundo contemporâneo e a solidão que advém ironicamente do excesso de informação e comunicação dos nossos tempos, no entanto, não se deixa ficar pela desesperança ou morbidez existencial porque através dos seus sons cristalinos e psicadélicos, existe uma forma de resistência audaz e optimista.
Paes metamorfoseia-se em Wallace e mostra-nos que há tempo para criar, respirar e viver, apesar do ritmo frenético que a sociedade constantemente nos impõe. Neste cenário fértil de ligação com o ouvinte, Wallace é música feita por e para os nossos tempos modernos.
O álbum conta também com um mini-documentário de 10 minutos realizado por Victor Giovanni, filmado durante a gravação do disco na residência artística.

An indelible connection persists between musician and listener when there is the creation of art that is intimate and introspective. The reflexions, memories and past experiences of the musician can create a fertile ground of symbols and meanings where the listener can recall their own personal memories. The memories and emotions are different but they have some things in common. Music finds its meaning on and through the listener.
There are several memories, painful or cheerful that make us create and express our emotions that might otherwise be locked away. Music as an alternative language for the soul that presents itself in its immateriality but more cohesive and massive than any other visible object.
We seek art that despite its genuine qualities can translate what we think and/or feel. And that is how the musician in its sensitivity and different outlook on the world, creates that strong bond that unites different continents.
From Brazil to Portugal comes Paes, a musician from Recife, in Brazil, that lives in São Paulo and has released his most recent EP – Wallace – through the record label Abismmo. The EP was recorded during an artistic residency that the musician made with Benke Ferraz (Boogarins) at Glândula Lab in Gravatá (Pernambuco). Paes also played with other musicians like Mombojó and José Duarte.
The EP has 7 themes that gravitate towards the capacity of personal reconstruction and the metamorphoses that we suffer along our existence. That capacity that ensures us that nothing is one hundred percent linear or stationary, that we don’t live in stagnation and everything changes, even if those changes are not immediately visible.
Wallace, name adopted as an alter-ego for the musician is described on the text of the record’s release as “a lysergic and melancholic trip, that is pink, blue, dipped in childhood memories, unending questions and a heart, that is in love, sometimes”.
The album is the musician’s sixth release in twelve years of career and presents itself as a melodic work but also experimental and exploratory. It is also delicate because it approaches themes like the anxieties of our contemporary world and the solitude and isolation that ironically comes from the excess of information and communication in our day. However, it does not stick to hopelessness or existential morbidity because through its crystalline and psychedelic sounds there is an audacious and optimistic form of resistance.
Paes metamorphoses in Wallace and shows us there are times to create, breathe and live despite the frenetic rhythms that our society imposes upon us. In this fertile ground of connection with the listener, Wallace is music made by and for our modern times.
The album is accompanied by a 10 minutes short-documentary directed by Victor Giovanni, filmed during the recording of the album on the artistic residency.
